Science Review

Before we went off track, we did the preliminary work for science-related stop motion videos.  I didn't realize that we wouldn't have use of the computer lab or any of the laptops so the students could finish the videos.  I have done my best to put them together without knowing their "visions" of their finished products.  Sorry if some of it is out of order!  Enjoy, and feel free to leave a comment!

Stop Motion Animation

This week, since I had a feeling most of the class would by hyped up on Christmas, we did something a little different.  We made stop-motion videos.  These don't really have an assigned topic... I just wanted the students to understand how to do them.  In either January or February we will be making a new one for social studies.  Keep an eye open for that.  Enjoy!  Feel free to leave a comment or question!

**Because of the length of the film, I had to upload it through YouTube.  The video is set to private, so only people with the link can view it.  It is not searchable.  Let me know if you want a copy of the link to send to friends or family.  (Or just direct them to our classroom blog!)

ISS: International Space Station

I found some cool videos that show tours of the ISS. I have embedded one below. If you would like to see more, visit the NASA site and search for "station tour."  There are four more videos that show different parts of the station.  Enjoy!

Cheese-it

We have a new little friend or two in our class!  We have named him Cheese-it.  This is something that is bound to happen when a school is surrounded by acres of fields on three sides.  Please make sure your student doesn't bring extra snacks in the classroom so our friends don't decide to join us on ground-level.

Math Blog

Good news!  I have created a new math blog!  After searching through math videos to find information to help students to remember math concepts that are taught in class, I decided it would be sad to take off the videos after the unit is over.  After all, the concepts are going to be revisited often.  In order to keep this blog from getting cluttered with math videos, I have created  worldwideweb-er-math.blogspot.com

If you have any videos or helps that you think would be helpful for the rest of the class, please email me at rachel.weber@jordandistrict.org.  Please also contact me if there is something you want me to find or something that your student is struggling with.  I am also always willing to help with math after school, if needed.

Ratios and Proportions

Last week during math time the students were split into groups along with the other two classes to do some review about ratios and proportions.  One of the groups enlarged candy wrappers using a ratio.  One example is below... I'll try to get pictures of some of the others up soon!  (The actual wrapper is at the bottom of the picture, and the students only used rulers and a calculator.)
